Landscapers’ and master gardeners’ number one choice in ferns!
‘Brilliance’ Autumn Fern, Dryopteris erythrosora “Brilliance” is a color improvement over the regular Autumn Fern species. The fronds of ‘Brilliance’ are tinged with rich red and orange as the new fronds emerge in the spring. As the warmer temperatures of summer approach, ‘Brilliance’ takes on a deep glossy green. Autumn Fern handles average to damp moisture, but very dry and very wet should be avoided as good drainage is necessary. Deer and rabbits stay away from ferns so use them with confidence near wildlife. Create pathways leading through fern-filled shade beds in a woodland garden. They make a low evergreen foundation planting under the lowest of windowsills. In the coldest zones it may be necessary to clip to the ground some fronds damaged in winter before new growth emerges in the spring.
