True Red is a hard color to find in azaleas but the Proven Winners® family has done it with the introduction of Bloom-A-Thon® Red Rhododendron x ‘RLH1-1P2’ USPP 21,562. Known for a major flush of blooms for weeks in the spring, they come back around in mid-summer and continue for months into fall. With consistent moisture and well-drained soil Bloom-A-Thon® azaleas can be planted in sun and be just as happy as the usual morning sun conditions typical azaleas need. Pair this handsome red azalea with yellow and blue for a triad of color. Try yellow Kerria japonica and blue hydrangeas for the spring season. For summer & fall combine with Butterfly Bush ‘Pugster Blue’® and yellow sunflowers. This special azalea grows a moderate 3-4 feet tall and wide. That makes it a great candidate for foundation plantings and lower evergreen blooming hedges. Bloom-A-Thon® azaleas love the heat! Cold hardy in zones 7-9, they will remain semi to fully evergreen. Prepare well for the second round of flowers by pruning and fertilizing in late spring after the first blooms fade.
