Fountain Grass is an ornamental grass that comes in sizes for gardens large and small, from 18 inches up to 4 feet tall. They are similar to other ornamental grasses in that they are very easy to grow and require one simple pruning to the ground in early spring. They are extremely deer resistant and deep roots make them excellent for erosion control.
Most effective massing several Fountain Grass together adds visual drama and movement to the landscape as the breeze rustles through the narrow foliage. Fountain Grass offers a texture balance when paired with broadleaf evergreens and perennials. In midsummer either a white, tan or pink bottlebrush plume arches above the foliage to add the famous fountain effect. The plumes persist through the winter, lending beauty and grace to the season.
‘Hameln’ is a very small Pennisetum alopecuroides, growing just 18 inches tall, rising to two feet with it’s midsummer white plume. Perfect for containers, borders or for mass groundcover plantings. Cold tolerant in zones 5-9.
Fountain grasses are one of the most used grasses in the landscape. They usually withstand most winters and continue to give color and texture to the landscape.
